Finance IV Research Seminar: Applied Equity Research

1 Content
The aim of this course is to provide students with practical experience in the field of equity analysis. In particular, it is about applying the principles of value investing to real companies. Each student is given a company to analyze extensively over the course of the semester. Students apply theoretical concepts and carry out an independent company analysis. As part of this analysis, qualitative and quantitative factors such as the business model, the industry, the competitive advantage of the company, the sustainability of the competitive advantage, the business figures, the integrity of the management and the efficiency of the capital allocation are to be analyzed first. Students are then asked to calculate the fair value of the company and compare this with the current price. The result of the entire analysis is recorded in an "Equity Research Report".

2 Examination
The final examination in this module consists of an equity research report (20 pages) and a presentation on one of the seminar days. The seminar grade is 65% based on the grade of the equity research report and 35% based on the grade of the presentation. In addition, active participation in all presentations is expected. The seminar will be held in German. The equity research report can be written in German or English. The seminar days may take place on the premises and in the presence of practice partners.
